ANO SOUVALA – ANO POLYDROSSOS

Ano Polydrosos or Ano Souvala, is the old village that was destroyed by an earthquake in 1870 and forced its inhabitants to descend to the plain and create the present Polydrosos village. The village today is a small paradise at an altitude of 800m. without tourism development, ready to conquer you with its tranquillity and natural beauty.

Sightseeing

In the village square, within a green landscape, you will see the church of Kyria Panagia or Kyra of the Angels.

In the gorge of Xiria, you can find the Kondylos cave with stalactites and stalagmites.

In 1924, a hydroelectric power plant was operating in the Mantamia site, which supplied the entire village with electricity. The area also was the working place of the famous local knifemakers who made the sought-after Suvala knives.

You can also observe the Mantamia Tower, which is situated on a steep cliff and was used as a fortification during the Middle Ages.#

Finally, the walks in the alleys and the paths of the village, along with the purr of the waters and the smells of apple trees, chestnut trees, fir trees and pine trees, will enchant you.
